I’ve just closed the final chapter of Between These Broken Hearts, and let me tell you—I’m not okay. My heart is a mix of happiness and loss, and I couldn’t be more grateful to Lexi Ryan for this emotional rollercoaster that’s left me breathless. This series, which began in 2021 and has followed me through seasons of life, will forever hold a special place in my heart. From the first pages, we dive straight back into the turmoil left behind in Beneath These Cursed Stars. Jasalyn, our remarkable protagonist, is grappling not only with her destiny but with the weight of her past fears. I cannot help but admire how beautifully she evolves throughout the series. She goes from a timid girl trapped in the shadows to a powerful force of nature. “I am anger and vengeance. I am love and acceptance. I am power and strength. I am grace and wrath.” YES, QUEEN! Jasalyn embodies growth and resilience, and it’s incredibly moving to witness her transformation unfold.
The emotional landscape of this book is rich and intense. Each character feels like they leap off the page, especially Kendrick and Felicity, whose stories are interwoven with Jasalyn’s in ways that tug at your heartstrings. Kendrick and Jasalyn’s dynamic is raw and captivating—their push and pull made me feel every ounce of their regret, love, and desire. “You’ve taken me from the pit of despair and back to hope,” Jasalyn tenderly admits, a line that rippled through me. Their relationship, filled with foibles and fervor, had me on edge, leaving me gasping for more.
And oh, Felicity and Misha! Their moments dripped with bittersweet poetry. The quiet strength in their connection is heartbreaking and beautiful, culminating in a kiss that seemed to resonate with unspoken vows. “I might kiss you, confess my undying love, and trick you into being my queen.” Do you see what I mean? I couldn’t write fast enough to capture all the emotions pouring out of me.
Lexi’s writing style strikes the perfect balance. It’s lyrical yet accessible, making it easy to get lost in this world despite the danger and desperation woven into the plot. The pacing, especially in the climax, kept me turning pages late into the night—I just had to know how everything would resolve. Each chapter is a constellation of intensity, illuminating not only the themes of courage and love but also the importance of found family.
I already know I’ll revisit this series whenever I need a reminder of what it means to embrace transformation. If you’ve followed Jasalyn’s journey, or even if you’re new to the series, I highly recommend diving into this emotional finale. Lexi Ryan has given us characters that feel so alive, a world that’s beautifully broken, and a narrative that captivates the soul.
